CGs I-40 corridor Tennessee , I-65 corridor Kentucky ????

Departing Sunday will be camping our way to Indiana(2weeks).
Seeking cgs not more than 60 miles from I-40 and I-65. No private parks please. Water and electric, wooded , hiking( more than nature walks ). No shopping or restaurant needed. 34' DP pulling mid-size 4x4 truck.
Just want to enjoy nature, have a campfire, consume a few adult beverages and eat too much.
Thanks for the help.

Check out Corinth Campground which is just east of Double Springs Alabama on Hwy 278. It is exactly 35 miles west of exit 308 off I65 on Hwy 278. It is operated by the National Forest Service through American Land and Leisure. It is located on the Sipsey River in the Bankhead National Forest. The sites are paved, far apart and have full hook ups including 50 amp and sewer. A nice place and they accept the Senior National Park discount.
  • If memory serves, Grove Drive-in Campground is a great place. It is forest service but really a nice place. That's in Corbin, KY. In TN we stayed once at Cumberland Mountain SP in Crossville, TN.
  • OP here. We leave in the morning still with no CG chosen. Called Falls Creek Falls SP.
Talked to a really nice young man. Was told there was only one campsite with w/e available for our size rig and they were totally booked for next weekend. Sounds like a really great park but if I have a choice I would rather not be in a 222 site CG that is fully booked .
Checked out several COE parks, over half won't be open yet.
Still doing homework. Still eager for suggestions.

  • Mammoth Cave was great. We camped at the Yogi Bear. Just left Falls Creek Falls.Fantastic place just be sure to come in from the south. We didn't and had a white knuckle drive up the mountain.
  • Seven Points COE just out of Nashville.
Nice size spots and pretty view on the water.
Close to both 65 and 40.
  • OK, in addition to Mammoth Cave National Park, there is Barren River State Park, about 35 miles off I-65, to the east. We have stayed there.
  • Thanks guys.
Are there really no suggestions for Kentucky from all you campers out there?
  • Falls Creek Falls State Park, off 111, exit 288 I40 it Tennessee. Everything you would want to do.

  • I've just got one ideal situation for you: Natchez Trace State Park in Tennessee. It is NOT on the Natchez Trace Parkway. It is not far off I-40 with a lake and peaceful surroundings.

Here is a direct link: Natchez Trace off I-40

Should have added Mammoth Cave National Park off I-65, but I have never camped there. Do a search.
