I-49 Louisiana/Arkansas

Headed to Hot Springs from Southeast Louisiana in two weeks. Can anyone tell me is I-49 is complete from Texarkana into Louisiana or should I just plan on taking US71 all the way.

How is US71? Like to stay on interstates as much as I can as the kids get ansy when we get off the interstate.

Thanks.
  • North of Shrieveport You can catch a small portion of I-49 to just south of the Arkansas line. Once in Arkansas you get back on it all the way to Texarkana.
  • I was interested in I-49 North from Shreveport to Texarkana. I did find my own answer, final connection scheduled to open is august. Thanks guys.
  • Going as far as you can on the Interstate should be no problem if you like rice paddies.

Of course, I seem to be able to get lost every time I hit Alexandria from the South.

(Opelousas congestion seems to depend on the racing season.)
  • From Lafayette to Opelousas I-49 is fairly congested or seems so compared to the rest of it. From there to S-Port it might be one of the most boring highways I've ever been on. Not too far N of S-Port it becomes 2 lane on into Ark. then back to IH to Texarkana. Been several yrs. since we went that way though.

49 and 71 are the same road
Uh don't know what map you are looking at but i-49 and 71 are most definitley not the same road at least up until Shreveport. 71 will take you through many small towns and is much slower than 49
