Well at least everyone keeps Tenneco profitable with bad roads and Tenneco is a local company (Monroe Shock Absorber) for me. They use LaPlasiance Road for their test track and it wicked too like most Michigan roads.
I used to truck 'Down East' years ago. One thing I learned rather quickly was, once of the Interstate the secondary roads were basically cow paths.
Rail is nice but the issue with rail (or light rail) is, you still have to use surface transportation to get to your destination because the rail don't go there..... That means roads.
