I-70 and I-65 Indiana

We just returned from our summer get away. I was amazed at the very poor condition of Interstate 70 westbound from the Indiana-Ohio line to Indianapolis. I stopped twice after a series of major "dips" to make sure all the gear in the 5'er was still intact. These were not potholes but rather shifts in the earth's plates creating up and down "ramps" while driving 70 mph!

On a related note, I couldn't have been happier with the smooth ride on I-65 north out of Indy.

If you're traveling this way, be prepared to stop to tighten all the screws and bolts afterwards.

  • Last April we were traveling west on 70 pulling a 5th wheel and hit a section of road missing that broke the bolt that held the left rear spring pack. The pucker factor went way up when looked in the mirror and say the trailer wasn’t in line with the truck.
  • So True! We drove I-70 from St Louis yesterday – it’s terrible. Then to make matters worse, we drove US 31 to Elkhart today. We had thoughts of going back to Terre Haute to do some local things that caught our eye. NO WAY will we go back on US 31 in Indiana. It appears roads that need to be replaced have been repaired. The repairs in general are horrible and around the bridges it’s even worse. And it seemed like there were countless bridges!
  • What's going on in Indiana??

Last month we were in Missouri and took I-70 back east through MO, IL, IN and OH. I have to say, it was terrible across Indiana. On top of that, we made the mistake of taking it through downtown Indianapolis (It was a Sunday) instead of the I-465 bypass. I-70 through downtown was worse than terrible!

On our way to MO, we took I-90 thru NY, PA, OH and IN. Same thing... I-90 was horrible in Indiana!

Somewhere on I-90 the frig door popped open, and stuff spilled all over the place, besides warming up. The WFCO converter mounting screws came loose and it was hanging half out of the cabinet. Fortunately, it was still working.

BTW, I keep my speed at 62 or lower.
  • Was through there last Fall and experienced the same thing. Was the worst section of interstate we had been on during that trip.
