From a Tennessee flat-lander (Memphis) but a regular Colorado visitor, just downshift on steep/long down hill grades so that little (or ideally) no braking is required - ie you are basically coasting and not losing speed without using the gas petal. I am always amazed at the number of vehicles on the interstate (mostly out of state plates)in CO that have their brake lights on much of the time. Save your brakes for an emergency.
