I-75 From Cincinnati to Port Charlotte Fl.

We are leaving from Columbus, sent away for a Trip-Tik from AAA they routed us down I77, I26, I95, I4, US-17. Wondering what is wrong with I75?

It's been open since the middle of April.

I think this is a bit overstated.

I believe that there has NOT been major construction on I-75/85 through Atlanta for the past 3 years or so.

And once you figure out that the right lane pretty much always is exit only all the way through downtown, why would that CONTINUE to be a problem in the future??

Going through Atlanta usually is not too bad; weekdays between 10A and 2P or before 6A or after 8P, 6 days a week and all day Sunday.

If you expect to go through (or around) any major city at rush hour without problems you just aren't being realistic.

Oh and the alternative routes given in the last two posts are both reasonably good and a bit more interesting than I-75.
  • I'm a native Cincinnatian. I will never drive thru Atlanta again. Why? Atlanta is under construction - always. Also, the right lane is exit only. If you happen to find someone to let you over, you're in the NEW right hand lane and it exits. I now take I-65 south to Mobile, AL. and then I-10 east to pick up I-75 in Florida if I'm headed for the Gulf coast or I-95 if I'm headed for the Atlantic coast. My blood pressure thanks me.

I personally like to go down thru Birmingham,Ala to Montgomery then thru Dothan,Ala to I-10 over to rt 98/27 down to Ocala then on to I-75...I realize it is about a 100 miles longer but just seems to be a more relaxing ride....and it isn't cause I'm shy to drive thru big cities...Chuck
  • I-75 is your best bet. I don't know why they would even show I-95 as a possible route. Port Charlotte is on the West side of Florida, no where close to I-95. It is just off of I-75.
  • Sounds pretty stupid to me.

I've made similar trips a LOT OF TIMES, sometimes on two wheels and would never consider that route. I-95 is notorioius for LONG delays.

Except for some tricky mountain roads around Monteagle, Tn. I think US-41 all the way might be a better choice than their convoluted mess. Well except for Nashville and Chattanooga where I would use I-24 or I-75.

Unless you really want a scenic route, I-75 would be my first choice.
  • I know just north of Knoxville, TN on I-75 they have one lane closed around mile marker 125. It has been closed for quite some time for road work. Also, if you are traveling at night parts of I-40/75 have rolling road blocks for repaving. Check out Tennessee Dept of Transportation for more info on it.

I live in Knoxville so I'm thinking that's why AAA is routing you a different way.
