I-75 from Florida to Ohio

Headed back to Ohio early next week. Have 5th wheel and well stocked with food and water. Only need to get diesel at truck stops. Will stay one night south of Atlanta and second night near Lexington. Check and campgrounds are available. So my question is how’s the traffic on 75? Will probably be traveling Monday-Wednesday. Figure after April 1st things with snowbirds might slow down. Thanks, Jim
  • I can't speak specifically to I-75 but we just came from Florida to New York State taking a different route. I'm sure the situations are similar regardless of the road traveled. The roads were busy near larger cities but I would guess there was about 40% of normal traffic everywhere else. Getting fuel wasn't an issue but finding places to stay ended up being a problem. We had planned on a slow trip home but it ended up being pretty quick. Private Campgrounds in Georgia, South Carolina and West Virginia cancelled our reservations so we had a couple of days where we had to drive farther than we wanted to. The campground in West Virginia called us 5 hours before we were going to arrive to tell us we couldn't stay there because the Governor had issued an order preventing out of state people from staying at campgrounds in that state. I would call the campgrounds you have booked to make sure you can still camp there. On the bright side, Rest areas had plenty of places to park and many truck drivers were using them to get much needed rest. The restrooms were also open. You likely won't be bothered if you get a few hours sleep in a rest area.
  • I have not done that trip in several years, but here are my recollections.

Atlanta can be tough. Traffic should be low with all of the "stay at home" orders. Go straight though downtown. Much faster than any of the bypass roads. If you really want to dodge traffic, plan to hit downtown BEFORE 6AM or AFTER 8PM.

Cincinnati can be another choke point. Again, go straight through. Traffic may slow, but it usually keeps moving.
  • Have you stayed at Carrols Sausage and Butcher Shop at Ashburn GA?

50A FHU. $30 but you get a $10 off coupon for their excellent store.
  • Just had friends arrive using I75 from Ocala to Detroit and cross back to Canada. Said traffic was very light even through Atlanta.
  • Traffic thru Atlanta is almost always ok since they make all thru semis bypass.

The problems usually occur when all the semis merge.
