I would take US441 north to US129/US441 thru Athens GA if you want a slower more scenic route. You can pikup I-85 to Greenville SC from there then to I-77 in Charlotte. I-75 thru Atlanta is not a problem but we prefer to avoid it since we have plenty of time. 2 rv parks we like: Cross Winds RV park in Linwood NC and Fort Chiswell RV park at Max Meadows VA near the I-81 & I-77 interchange.
I like this way and use it all the time...75 north to exit 201 in Jackson ,Ga take dt 23 to rt 16 in Jackson, then 16 to Monticello to rt 83 north to I-20..it is maybe 5 miles...all truck routes and moves at 55 mph..the 0n I-20 to Columbia, SC,,great route,,Chuck - BillMFlExplorerIf you want a nice quiet contry ride exit I75 onto I10 East. Second exit on I10 is 441 North. The first few hours are nothing but pine forest and farm land. Very few cars or trucks in either direction. You can take 441 all the way to Asheville if you want to or hop off on I85. Only town of any size is Athens and it has a beltway around it. I use this route when time isn't important and I don't want the stress of I75.

If you are planning to head N on I85, I would definitely consider taking US129/US441 from Macon through Athens to I85. Not sure where you are wanting to overnight, but at least 2 GA state parks are close to that route.
Double ditto. Excellent route advice. - noe-placeExplorerBeen to Florida from Kentucky and back on the 75 MANY times and always go through Atlanta. Usually take the bypass around the West side which can be slow at times; usually the obvious rush hours. Same possible if going through town though. I try to go through really late if going through town but usually end up on the bypass.
- wanderingbobExplorer IIAny thing is better than I-75 . Ain't nuttin wrong with US 129 . I go thru Commerce Georgia and dry camp at the Wal-mart just before the Interstate.
- Mortimer_BrewstExplorer IIAnother vote for going through downtown Atlanta. Be forewarned that the lanes are narrow, which will serve to make those around you nervous. Obviously try to avoid rush hour.
- workhardplayha1ExplorerIt is quicker to go through instead of going around Atlanta. The loops around Atlanta are just as congested and add miles.
- jaycocamprsExplorerUS-129/411 will take you from Macon up to I85 just fine. Some will be 4 lane, some is still 2 lane. It will save you 20 miles, and likely add a hour to your trip.
- RGar974417ExplorerWe went through Atlanta many years ago and it wasn't a good experience.Prefer to avoid it.

Easy way to pick up those "needed" items.
