I 76 Neb to Denver

Its been more than a few years since I traveled I 76 heading to Denver. All I remember about the trip was the road was like riding on a wash board. I will be traveling that road this summer and am asking if it is still in that bad of condition.
  • Just drove it east bound from Denver to I80 on Monday. I really would not call it wash board as 5ne ride is tolerable, but there is enough surface wear from heavy vehicles that there is a loud oscillation thump in most sections, As was mentioned, the left lane is much better, but they have posted signs on state law requires moving back to right after passing. Although it is not a terrible ride, the sound is very annoying.
  • We towed our fifth wheel on it last fall and will be on it again in two weeks on our way to a circle tour around Lake Superior. Personally I don't find it bad at all, especially compared to I-65 in Indiana and I-10 in Louisiana. But then I just set my cruise control at 65 mph and never vary it on that nearly flat highway, so maybe I don't feel it as much as someone driving 75 in a truck with a leaf-spring rear suspension.
  • I76 has stretches that are terribly rough - especially when you are towing. The left lane is smoother than the right, but it will still loosen your fillings.

Was that way and worse 20 years ago and It joined the roads I Avoid - If I knew where you wee coming from it would be easier to help.

We have used RT 36 across Kansas good road - fewer Trucks - Less Traffic.

    JMHO,
  • We did it east bound a few years ago and I do not remember any issues with the road quality but like I said this was maybe 4 years ago.
