I-77 through West Virginia

Would like to know your experiences with I-77 through West Virginia pulling a 5er.

Would like to know if this would be easier then I-71 to I-75 to Knoxville. I-26 into Asheville to swing over to I-85.
  • I-77 south thru Ohio and West Virginia is the best IMO. I have travelled this route from Marietta Oh to Florida, Texas, Georgia and S Carolina.

WV I-77 is hilly but not bad. (Except in winter). I-81 over the Smokies is worst than I-77. Once you get to VA/NC border it almost is flat.

    I travel with a 38' Class A w/TOAD.
  • We travel Rt 23 instead of the interstates through this area. Rt 23 is used, especially this past weekend with NASCAR fans heading to Bristol. You pick up I-26 as soon as you cross into Tennessee.

Rt 23 is a 4-lane highway, mostly limited access all the way until you hit I26. Make sure you bypass downtown Ashland, KY.

You will travel through a few towns, but the area is beautiful and scenic.
  • Where are you going to, from where? I like I-77 through VA, it's one of my favorite drives, towing a large trailer, driving a bus or driving a car. You get to go through some nice tunnels, and great scenery. Some hills but nothing serious. Your Duramax won't notice...
