I 77 South through WV & Virginia in November

Hello,

Possible trip to Disney this coming November

Have concerns about northern part of trip and weather. I have not driven this route in November and was wondering if this something to be concerned about or not.

Thanks!

Dave
  • Keep a keen eye on the forecast, we hit snow in April a few years back. Just a squall moving through but enough to cover the road before we could find an exit. Not fun.
  • Also, we don't normally get big snow storms in November UNLESS something drastic happens. Now, the middle of January is another story.
  • Most roads in/around the area are prone to ice and snow IF A STORM IS COMING THROUGH. Get off the highway and don't travel during the storm. Give VDOT and WVDOT time to work the roads and get the snow off of them (a few hours past the storm) and you should be ready to go.

Interstate highways carry most of our goods on trucks and we don't want to slow down commerce, so they work those roads quickly and well. They CAN'T keep the snow off of them while it's snowing, so take that into consideration.
  • Just watch out for snow and ice. The Virginia end being more prone to ice, the WV end to snow, and neither friendly to anyone dragging a trailer in bad weather.
  • We'll be going down through there in November as well with our 5th wheel. We planned on leaving Western NY around mid November to avoid just the type of weather you're concerned with. This year was an anomaly with the early snow storm but usually things don't get dicey until the end of November. Give yourself some flexibility on the departure date and you shouldn't have any issues.
  • We have traveled it many times and have not had any issues. Just keep your eyes on the weather forecast and try to avoid driving if a winter storm is imminent,,,
