I don't understand the reference to California if Coos Bay is your destination. My suggestion - at Salt Lake city/ Ogden area switch ti I 84 across Idaho. At Ontario OR take US 20/126 across to Eugene OR then 126 to 101 and south to Coos Bay. All of these are preety easy pulls for you and your friends.
