X-2, unless you have some specific reason to go to the DC area, i'd follow these directions, and avoid DC like the plague.Frank 39 wrote:

Planning to take I 81 to 15 to I 95 Washington area then south any advice I 81 was rough, with construction coming up last week if I have to I will stay on until 64
:h US15 does not intersect I81 nor does it intersect I 95 so your question doesn't make sense. IMO best route is I81 to I66 (or US15) then US15 south to US15/29 then take US17 at Opal down to I95 at Fredricksburg area. That will miss all the significant DC mess. Go ahead and go down to I64, but IMO it's not necessary and is about an hour longer and 70 miles further.

This.
All you have to do is get to Fredericksburg and you're golden. - jplante4Explorer III've done I-81 to Winchester, then US50 to US17 to I-95 just north of Fredricksburg. As I remember it was a pleasant trip.

Frank - americanrascalExplorerJust ran up to Dumfries(just outside south of DC) from ATL with our moho and toad. Went up I-985, US 23, I-40 to Asheville, then I-26, to I-81 then up to I-64 and over to Dumfries.
I-81 was wonderful.
That route north was fantastic -- except for the short I-95 component which was lousy.
Came back down I-95 ans I-85. YUCK! - Tom_BarbExplorer IIWe left Baltimore belt way at 4 AM thinking we'd beat the morning rush. Nope, we were bumper to bumper going south, and the 95 north was a parking lot all way out 50 miles south of DC.
go around, way around. - obgrahamExplorer
Not really sure what the question is?
Doesn't matter. I95 below DC is to be avoided at all costs! - BusskipperExplorer
