I25 Fort Collins south to

Just about anywhere!!!!

OMG!!! 75 mph and most are doing 80+. We stayed in Monument CO and drove to and from everything. While there, there was always 2 accidents a day on it. After seeing the speeds and how they drive I understand why! 75mph is just to fast with the amount of people that are on it in the daytime.

Just a heads up if your visiting there! Keep your eye open.

  • We will be heading from Rocky Mountain NP to Colorado Springs in a few weeks on a Friday. Any tips on routes or best time to travel through Denver?
  • Simply put...the infrastructure of I-25 north of Denver, and more specifically north of Longmont, is overwhelmed. It is a parking lot formerly known as an interstate highway.

Went to see the Tim McGraw/Faith Hill Soul to Soul Tour at the Pepsi Center Tuesday night. There was also a Colorado Rockies Game and a concert at Red Rocks the same night. I was going nowhere near the speed limit, much less over it. A truck fire south of the Longmont Exit 243 had southbound traffic backed up all the way to the Loveland Exit 257. 14 miles of traffic going 25-30MPH. Freed up a bit beyond the burnt out truck, but slowed again at 120th Ave due to the usual construction going on in that area and south.

This has become the norm here. Any time there's a stall or accident or any sort of event, even a trooper on a traffic stop and giving a ticket, traffic slows down tremendously. Was able to go closer to the speed limit coming BACK from the concert -- at 11pm. Traffic was still heavy and slowed when the highway narrows from 3 to 2 lanes. Commuter life in northern Colorado.

X2 We have been here since '71 and thought traffic and drivers were so much better then our former home-Illinois. Now it is too congested and many have no patience.

  • OT- when I moved to Ft Collins, there was no I25 - US287 was it :) When I25 was completed, it made driving to "the big city" much faster.

Of course, Ft Collins had a population of around 25k at that time (1964).
  • I drive I-25 from Fort Collins to North Denver twice a day. And have been for years.

It's no longer the speeds, it's the tailgating and volume of traffic.
