Newport Oregon to Fort Collins Co

You know I don't care about spelling errors or key strokes...but when it comes to giving out bad directions, the OP really needs to be given correct data. I'm really sorry if I offended you....was not my intention. I apologize.

We usually take 20/34 to I5 and then north to Salem and take 22 over to Sisters and back on 20 to Bend and across Oregon to I84 in Idaho. 84 south to I15 and then east on I80 across to Wyoming and down to Colorado on I25.

I-80 doesn't go through Idaho... it comes from Sacramento through Nevada to SLC and on to Cheyenne WY. Did you mean I-84?

Thank you Carringb, that helps a lot. Several years ago I took 20 to Newport and I thought my arms would fall off before we got there. I just did not know at the time it was 20, but I do now.

22 is a much easier route. You actually go over Santiam pass before the split (heading West) but after the split 20 then goes up Tombstone pass, which is much higher, narrower, and has about 7 miles of 15-35 MPH curves coming down the west wide, plus a couple small landslides you cross over. Those sections are sometimes filled with new asphalt, sometimes gravel is pushed over, and sometimes its an abrupt ledge into a large dip.

Also, 20 is not plowed as regularly, as Hwy 22 gets plowing priority after a big storm.

We are headed out to Seaside first week in June from Rigby Idaho to a Ham Radio convention. We are going to stop at McMinnville to see the Spruce Goose. From Bend we are going to take 20 into the mountains where the road splits, 20 to the south and 22 to the north. Which route is best. I have heard that even at that time of the year either route could be closed from snow. We will be driving a 23 foot MH V-10, is one route better then the other for steep passes.
