Indianapolis to I-74 to Cincinnati hit I-75 South all the way to Knoxville.
At Knoxville take I-40. At Raleigh, take 64 on East. You have the option to hit the Outerbanks at Kitty Hawk or go Southward and take the Ferry at Swan Quarter which till take you to Ocacroke Island.
