inexpensive long-term stay in Sonora?

I'm thinking of going to Mexico this winter rather than the US as I'm getting dangerously close to spending enough time in the US as to have to file income tax there. :E

Going to Mexico is really intimidating because of all the paperwork to do at the border. I also don't want to travel that far for financial reasons. A friend of mine suggested I consider going to a certain part of the state of Sonora as all I would need is the tourist visa. It wouldn't be that much further than Arizona, where I had planned to go and it would be easy to get to.

I'm concerned that going to Mexico would end up being a lot more expensive than going to the US. I boondock/dry camp 99% of the time in the States and get the impression that as a single lady, I'd be wise to stay at an RV park.

I've had luck finding the odd RV park in the States that would let me dry camp for a token fee (usually about $5 a night) and am wondering if there is any chance of finding such a thing in the paperwork-free part of Sonora? Or a place that has a really good deal for a full season?

Not counting propane and gas for the generator, I've been averaging $50 a month in accommodation costs for the last two years so the thought of spending $300+ monthly at an RV park makes Mexico unappealing to me.

Thanks,

Rae
