Do as you wish, just don't endanger someone else by recommending something THE MEXICANS THEMSELVES do not do. I became a citizen May 2010, se llama ciudadano.
My entire family is Mexicano. If you told them you camped solo on a beach especially for a length of time, you'd have them rolling in the sand holding their side. I get great practice here with my Ingles. I go weeks or months at a time speaking EspaƱol.
Senior gringas do not get hassled as much (dar piropos) as younger gringas. Not 5% as much. For security mingle with Mexican women if necessary. They understand the non-mind of some Mexican machos. Gringo bars are perfectly OK. Be careful in cities at night alone. Take a taxi do not walk alone.
Never answer your door at night, unless the knock is accompanied by a familiar voice. Some nearly harmless drunks may be looking for a handout but you cannot tell for sure.
Your boondock neighbors will understand your position and it will come up for discussion at some point early in your stay. Women stick together, whether gringas or Mexicanas. It does not matter.
I would not dwell on this too much as there is too much automatic negativity associated with it. Dozens if not hundreds of women go south annually with no problem. You'll meet some.
Have A Blast
Not sure where you live, but I have been part of a 114 member family for over 28 years. We've never heard any of the above. Rough family?
