It takes time in Mexico to sort the first impressions out, but you will, eventually.
There can be different kinds of "deserted beaches". All land is somebody's property. Thieves are part of a local culture, and then there are robbers, and both kinds know on whose land you stay and how much the owner cares about you being there. Staying on the beach with no other campers in sight but with an owner's shack few hundred meters away, and when access road goes past that shack, is one thing. Staying on the beach with no other campers and when the owner doesn't even know that you are there, is another.
