Maybe chuck the electric blanket when not camping with shore power. The right bed sheets and blankets have always been enough if you are healthy. As you say, "mid-forties is balmy," and I certainly agree, maybe you can save the gas for travel, instead of for power generation.
We've escaped Canadian winters (though as you know, not usually very cold on the west coast) for the past eleven, by going south. Solar is our answer, to the extent we never even consider using the generator, as we camp in sunny areas. In Mexico we've often considered not even plugging in while at a park for a short time. We don't use an electric coffee maker, and seldom used the microwave, maybe for defrosting but not for cooking. But without solar, I could see you using the generator for a time at bedtime if you do keep the blanket, and while running it then, you'd be bringing your batteries' charge up.
Have a good winter!
