I've heard of crazy voltage spikes and drops. Sure, I might not have a problem but since I'm independent for power, why take any risks?
I also think that people who claim to not have had problems (not just in Mexico, I've been bad wiring in the US and CAD) didn't know they had problems. I probably know too much and have too much monitoring equipment. :)
