I use double conversion when ever there is a shore power issue (shortage, low voltage and etc).
I 'broke out' the power cord for just the converter. This I protect with a $2.00 surge unit. I power it with a 20 amp auxiliary shore power cable. The converter operates well down to 100 volts. I understand that Iota converts work down to 95 volts.
I plug the OEM shore power cable into the inverter. This happily runs everything in the rv and lets me draw more than the fifteen amp (1800 watt) limit for "regular" 120 volt outlets.
BTW I have another auxiliary shore power cord for the water heater.
I used male and female plugs so in seconds I can switch back to the OEM wiring.
You may find it easy to buy a 15 amp autoformer in Mexico. If I ever get there I'll be doing so.
I use a *lot* of built in meters and my current love is a watt meter that lets me measure all the 120 volt usage including that of my inverter.
