Turtle-Toad,you have peaked my interest. What kind of converter/inverter? I am now in the process of installing a new Xantrex 458 converter/inverter/charger. Also do you place the surge protector in series with the auto-transformer? OR how do you determine which one to use? Location of your grd wire & rod, do you connect it to the ground on the inverter? Also expanding my solar this winter as it is now only the factory (small) panel with a trickle charger. However while I admire you guys that use min power, we do not. Not giving up luxuries I worked so hard to gain & enjoy so if I have to run the gen for a couple of hours to supplement I will. I do try to keep to a min and NEVER during evening quiet hours. At present if I dry camp, which I do half of the time, I have to run the gen 3-6 hours to recharge the batteries. Recharge time depends how cold it was as we do use the furnace and is our biggest power eater. My min objective is to reduce gen run time by half with the solar. Looking at a 200 - 400 watt system.
