Insurance for Guatemala

I think Guatemala has an Automobile Club. See if you can find the web site. My recollection from passing through the Guatemala border several times on the way to El Salvador is that you can buy it at the border...I beleive the information in the Church Book is incorrect...they say you can only get it from a broker in Texas.

In Belize, insurance is required,and is available at the border,and will be checked.

Years ago we bought insurance at the border when we crossed near Chetumal. Last year at El Ceibo there was no way place to buy insurance. We only spent a week and stayed in one place the whole time. We never did get insurance. I don't think it's required (but don't quote me on that), though obviously always a good idea.

In town was the only option a couple of years ago.
