internet options

Hola
My sister and bro in law will be coming down south next winter and stay three months in their RV.
She needs a reliable wifi connection she works from home for a government contractor. State side she can travel and work anywhere cell service is good. At our RV park they provide internet but it has been down for days and Telcell can also be very unreliable. Is there a mobile satellite that can be used for wifi in Mexico?
Thanks
Chuck

  • In order to obtain a land line you need to have a permenent recidence, proof of that will be a receipt of the CFE with the name and address, an RV campground is not going to cut it with the phone company for a permanent land line, this is missleading information get a hot spot for the wi-fi or the usb sticks.

The viva Mexico program is more than 20 years ago that it was started, we have had A&TT programs to accses Mexico for a lot longer than that with good rates and good service.

A different approach, but if they are going to be sitting in the same place for three months, how about having TelMex run a line directly to them? We had it run to us last January, and the installation was a flat price and we pay 249p per month for an honest 50 mbps. I think the installation was something like $50 US including the modem and router. They installed in two days.

    Just another thought.

Good idea. We have had the Telmex service since 2000. It's fast, reliable and as you said, very affordable.
  • Two majors systems manage towers throughout Mexico; Telcel and Movistar. We have a USB stick for both. We are never without service. If one doesn't work, the other will.

You can check their service areas on their websites via their network maps.

  • I have a T Mobile hot spot that works in the US, Canada and Mexico. 35 bucks a month for 8 Gig of data
  • My wife and I are currently at a park with great WIFI, but that is an exception. Our AT&T plans have unlimited talk and data, and we've had great service in our travels using the phone as a hotspot. We often connect to AT&T Mexico which covers 90% of Mexico and services 13% of the cellular market. Not sure if that might do the trick for them.
  • Thanks Mo,
We have tried all that before and last year we just paid Verizon $10.00 a month extra for each phone and all the calls and data can be used in Mexico, BUT it's only as good as your phone service where one is at. Many Telcel problems in our area are very undependable.
  • Hi Chuck. She could either bring her cell phone and use a Telcel SIM or buy a cheap Telcel phone
This would give her a hotspot for internet. Some people buy a Telcel internet stick
Data can be purchased at any Oxxo store
It all depends where she will be located. Some areas do not have decent signal strength. Satellite is horrible. Nice to see you on the forum.
