MAZATLÁN SINALOA - qtla9111NomadHi Brian,
Someone in our group showed me their wifi booster and I had found one at Radio Shack here in Monterrey. Later when I spent this summer in SMA, I bought one at the Office Depot (mall at Luciernaga) and I couldn't get it to work. I returned it with no issues but I didn't see much improvement. I can't tell you the brand now. So they are available in Mexico. - iguana07Explorer IILike Chris said Sterens has a 100% return policy. Check your wifi bars before hooking up booster after installing bars should increase, if not return it.
- briansueExplorerIt is possible - depending on where you are and what is going on around - that you will see an increase in WiFi options with a booster. We sometimes see maybe 3 or 4 signal sources before we hook up the ALFA and then see up to 20 options when we hook up the ALFA. This is in no way suggesting this will happen anywhere. Just that it is possible. You should see an increase in the number of bars as well as an increase in the number of WiFi signals out there. If you don't then the product is probably not worth buying. There are probably people out there who can tell you how to get something shipped to Mexico but you have to have a real mailing address. Even US Postal Service offers international mailing but I do not know if this would include Mexico or how to get it done. There is a rumor that someone is make counterfeit ALFAs so I would not buy from anyone but Rokland.
- iguana07Explorer IIIt can be used to increase signal of wifi in our RV park. We have two hot spots in our park with a booster the signal can be increased
- almccExplorerJust a couple of suggestions based on our experiences in Mexico. If you can get an antenna up onto an RV roof or higher location and do some "aiming" to peak the receive signal you might get better results, I've done this with a friend's truck camper where he was able to open his egress vent. Any booster won't improve the receive signal by itself unless it has a better receive antenna or is better aimed, but it will give a better transmit signal back to the wifi you are trying to connect to.
And I second the comments about repeaters, a few years ago I donated and installed a repeater for the wifi at Villas Onac, it took the weak signal from their wireless router (designed for household use and used around the pool) and it provided a strong enough signal to reach to the top of the park. It only resulted in additional use that used up the Hughes sat internet daily allowance quicker (but that's another story!) - PNW_SteveExplorerTake a look at: http://www.outsideourbubble.com/secure-private-rv-wi-fi-and-making-a-better-park-connection-for-under-100
