Those trucks pay millions of dollars in taxes. What we need is for the state to use the money for what is was intended, fix the roads. They seem to find other things to use it for.
You are correct about the taxes by truckers but the problem is the states allow trucks to run weights way beyond what the roads were designed for. If we went back to the weights allowed in the 60's we would have much less road damage.
The reconstruction of the roads to meet the current weight allowance would run into the trillion range not millions.
To built a Interstate today would be a couple million per mile.
