Before we started traveling in our home on wheels, I used to subscribe to Budget Travel. They have a website. It is for travel all over the world, but they do give ideas of what to see & places to eat. Also places to stay, but that's not relevant to us now.
We just got back from visiting southwest Georgia. I was pleasantly surprised with the visitors centers in Columbus, GA & Albany, GA. No, not a magazine, but my reason for mentioning it is that there are more visitor center, information to be had than just the state or the big cities. If a place peaks your interest, see if they have a visitors center. You'll have plenty to read! Along with TripAdvisor, Urbanspoon & Yelp you'll be getting around like a local.
