Ditto for St Mary. You will be looking up at the rugged peaks while having your morning coffee. And there are fantastic day hikes nearby. If you stay outside of Yellowstone you will have a fairly long drive in and back every day. Stay in the park and you will have much more time for the sights. I go in spring or fall. Summers are a traffic jam and nose to butt on the most popular trails. A raft trip on the Snake River out of Jackson is a hoot! Yellowstone is tops for its thermal sights but Glacier and the "Going to the sun" road take your breath away.
