Jackson to Mobile...best route?

We are heading down to Gulf Shores in March from Iowa. Will be travelling in a motorhome so want to stick to interstate as much as possible. Mapquest says the best route from Jackson Mississippi to Mobile is US 49 to Hattiesburg, then US 98 to Mobile. Is anyone familiar with this route? Are there going to be a lot of stops and starts, which hubby hates????

    All of the above posters are "right on". Have done the same route from Jackson to Mobile just a couple of months ago on our way home to Summerdale.

    Although the I-65-to-I-10 route is a tad bit of a backtrack, it's way better than taking the rig though downtown Mobile. Just stay on I-10 and take Exit 44 for Loxley/Robertsdale. That's the fastest way to Alabama 59 and the Redneck Riviera! :C

    Yes, that is the exact way we go.

    No problem until coming into Mobile. US 98 gets slow for a few miles, but that is still the way we would go. What we do is take I-65 south when we intersect it on US 98 then go around to I-10 East. But that depends on where you are going: Mobile or Pensacola??

    ADD: There will be some stop and go leaving Jackson, and the same thing entering Mobile area. Other than that It's a pretty good route. Use the freeway in Hattisburg, but that should be obvious.
