I doubt I am the one to stick my nose in to try to explain some of this - but I will try.
Having lived in several states I know for a fact that not all states are "title" states. Sometimes a DMV registration is all that is needed. Way back when (I can still remember) there were states you only needed a piece of paper saying you paid someone for the car to transfer ownership. I know this for a fact.
All states have different rules and regulations. I would guess different countries do as well. And the states and provinces within those countries could well have different rules as well.
We recently sold a house. The title was kept in the county records department. You had to have a lawyer to access those papers. Not all states give an actual title to the property owners - be it real estate or motor vehicle.
The rules that apply when you are at home in your home state, province, country, may not apply at all somewhere else. What is true one place may not be true another. Canadian Rainbirds is very kindly letting all of us know what they are learning about the rules they are being told exist in Mexico as opposed to the rules in Canada. This should be extremely important for all of us to know and for us to learn about so we can adjust our thinking and what we do as we travel. I for one am thankful they are taking time away from their troubles to share what they are learning with us.
Canadian Rainbirds - I want to thank you on behalf of all of us who travel in Mexico for taking time to share what you are learning with us. We are now doing everything we can to adjust our way of doing things while here in Mexico with many thanks to you for all your information. We are all following this thread closely to see how this all turns out and we are hoping for a good result to your benefit. Please try to ignore the trolls coming out of the woodwork to stir up trouble - there are many of us out here who are very concerned about this and interested in learning all there is to be learned.
