Things are looking up! :)
Received an offer from Qualitas; we responded showing a few differences and listed the add ons: Tow bar, braking system etc etc. They moved up a little, in fact very close to our Declared Value on the policy. Wish we had made it higher. :S
We now just need to be sure that the documentation that we have will be sufficient. They are not looking for as much paperwork as they first demanded.
I will post the paperwork details when all is done and again when we get the cheque.
Update to the above: It took several rounds of e-mails, Qualitas wasn't exactly prompt in responding. A nudge here and there from Jim Lewis helped. I CCd him on all emails to Qualitas
This is what they asked for:
Good morning, we do realize the issue and it's very particular to Canadian documentation, considering that it's different from the titles issued by the states in the US. In this case, and after reviewing this issue with my manager, we can offer to cover if the registered owner sends the following:
1. Transfer form filled by the registered owner as seller and notarized signature.
2. Sign the copy that you have (attached is the one we received previously).
And for the rest of the documents we ask:
• Copy of id from owner(s).
• Copy of valid temporary importation permit (if you don't have it, just let us know)
• Keys of the vehicle (any that you may have)
• Certified copy of the stolen vehicle report filed at the Ministerio Publico.
Please confirm if you have these documents so that I may send you the settlement offer. If you have any comments or observations also, please let me know.
Item 2 above refers to the vehicle registration.
Also, suggested by our ICBC broker, we included a signed bill of sale form and the ICBC Transfer Form (Requested in item 1 above) is really only for vehicles being sold in British Columbia.
Of course we do not have a the TIP but we have the receipt from the banjercito. We sent a Notarised True Copy of that.
We finally got the definitive answer on the Ministerio Publico report. Glad I asked for confirmation: they first asked for a Certified True Copy, but this morning reneged on that and asked for the original, with the stamp.
Sent off this afternoon to their San Ysidro, CA PO Box number via Canada Post Express Post. We'll be watching the tracking number daily!
I am sure that we would still be waiting were it not for Jim Lewis of Lewis and Lewis taking an interest. Thanks again to Moisheh and Mexicowanderer who also contacted Jim Lewis on our behalf.
Of course the TIP has not been cancelled yet. We had nothing to cancel going northbound so we just carried on by. We turned in our FMT of course.
Updates as and when.
