Jeep theft Document problem, ATTN Canadians.

Good to hear of some more progress. I think I have compiled all the paperwork for HDI, but I fully expect to be asked to produce some more. We have another truck and are not looking forward to going back to Patzcuaro to pick up the trailer. Hopefully we might be able to pick up a replacement permit for the trailer at the Banjercito as we pass through with the new truck (in the wife's name), it would be easier on the nerves if we have a trailer permit, as we usually get asked for the permits northbound at the big truck check. Plan "B" will be to get some kind of a "pass" from the Ministerio in Patz saying our permit was stolen. ICBC was being a bit difficult here. I cancelled the plate and they put through a refund for the unused portion of insurance, but wanted all the proof we could muster that we were actually in Mexico when I asked for the rebate for time spent there. I printed out a bank statement with continual withdrawals from Nov 17 at San Carlos until just before we came home on the 5th April from bank machines in Patzcuaro. Finally remembered and printed out a credit card statement from December with the permit and deposit charges on it from Nov 17th. If anyone from B.C. would like a copy of the paper I got from the consulate in Guadalajara explaining-in Spanish- that our ICBC registration is also title, let me know - I have it in a file you can print out. In our situation, it would have been nice to have that from the start and would have saved a lot of worry and paperwork with the Ministerio and the police.
