Meanwhile almost 2 years later:
We are happily ensconced in our usual place in Zihuatanejo. With our new Jeep. Qualitas paid out within a few hundred of our declared value of the 2011 Jeep with which we were able to buy a 2014 2 door. When we told the local Jeep dealer what we had got he said that we had done very well. The cheque was in US dollars. (looking back wish we had waited a year to cash the cheque, we'd have made another 20%!
The original import (which we had never cancelled because of the bureaucratic snafus) was in DWs name--vehicle in both name. The new Jeep was successfully imported again in her name--we had new passports and so new number. No flags.
We now carry copies of the registration for each vehicle in the other vehicle. Since the documents come off the same computer printer the only difference between an original and a copy is the agency ID/date stamp. Blue on the original and black on the copy. In hind sight, should have copied in colour. But who would know?
Ron and Vicky's translation of the explanation of ICBC registration/insurance document should also be carried in each vehicle. I once had an agent(at Km21) call me a liar when I said that BC didn't have "pink slips", just the registration document. A firm demand to see El Jefe inmediatamente soon had her sent off with a cross word from the the boss who took care of things for us.
Holymole, (or anyone) we're at El Manglar until mid February then PV for a couple of weeks. Come look us up.
Edited to correct typo
