Do you have a pickup? Would it be possible to simply build a bracket of 2x4's to hold the cans and run a chain/padlock for security?
I'm old school. No matter the size of one's fuel tank (and recognizing that the road is much improved), I'd still want to carry spare fuel..may be not needed, but having to temporarily patch a fuel tank with a soda can, baling wire, and duct tape in the old days, .....and then drop in 20 gallons from my "jerry cans" in order to make it to the next station (that fortunately was open), I'm paranoid about running out of fuel.
