Keep to the Well Beaten Path

We know that these countries place a low value on human life (lucky for us all - they can't afford WOMD).

When traveling (especially into mexico), keep to the more touristy areas. There is no need to go poking around. Go poking around in these countries and your likely to get poked back.

Get turned around? Not much looks like it did minutes ago? Surprise - you're on the wrong side of town. I've never been here and asked for directions. In fact I rarely come to a complete stop at intersections when "in a spot". The thugs aren't brave enough to get in the way of my rolling thunder.

Just like your younger days, when in doubt "Gas It"! ;)

  • Don't come to a complete stop at intersections??? I would guess that being stopped for a traffic infraction, would constitute " a corrupt police force" ? My suggestion would be for you to park at Walmart, or your drive way.....still safe?

The OP post has all signs of trolling - no useful info, just arguable statements fishing for response. The following is not to provide such a response, but merely to show that my POV is not emotions-driven.

Mexico is a big place, and it depends where you are. Overall, theft is more a problem than in the US. Robbery - depends where you are, and yes, in some areas of the US I would not walk or would not stop my car either.

As a side-note - coming from wilderness kayaking background, it's funny to read suggestions to stick to beaten track. Of all Mexico I only know Baja, and the safest places were those without any town or road access nearby.
  • Wow I'm lucky to still be alive.

Me camped all alone on a wonderful beach in Baja California Sur, Mexico.

Going back to downtown Oakland, California after a day in downtown San Francisco.

Those guns are pointed to the Parking lot I spent a night in all alone in downtown San Pedro, California.

I know I'm cheating fate and it's just a matter of time before I'm dead!
  • I live WAY the hell and gone "Off The Beaten Track" down here, to AVOID people like this...
  • This is a troll. The best response is to ignore him. May I humbly suggest that my post serve as the unofficial end of this discussion? Thanks.

I see you've met the "Hadlock Welcome Wagon"....sorry about that! It's just that as the Tourist season wears on the locals start to get a little testy.
  • Are you trolling or perhaps you just want to see how much fire you can create as a new member. I used to love my travels to our neighbor down South, but the news over the past few years has kept our travels within the USA and Canada. The fear created by the drug cartels is tragic. But, as for your advice: Always be careful where you travel. I would suggest Oakland, CA, Newark, NJ, and Detroit, MI, currently have a smaller area and high crime rate than Mexico. Truthfully, I'm not sure of the two in the East, but when flying through Oakland I do not leave the airport.
Anyway, welcome to this wonderful forum. I, along with many, would love to read your RV adventures.
    Happy Trails. :)
  • With a 'location' of "Everywhere->USA"

    What's your beef with Mexico?

One doesn't need to travel outside of USA to get themselves "in a spot"

Lots of areas in USA to not go 'poking around'
Have you checked the murder rate for USA.

I don't do 'touristy' places anywhere.
