Kicking Horse Campground Yoho NP ????

30 foot TT

We plan to spend a week in mid to late May seeing the CN Rockies. To get away from the people at Banff and Jasper we are think about Kicking Horse Campground. The reviews on RV park reviews are good.

What are your thoughts?
  • Stayed at Kicking Horse a couple of years ago and found it to be quite nice. Very rustic and scenic, very clean and quiet.
  • It is basic, no hookups, but well maintained in a beautiful setting. There may be some snow and nights will be quite chilly.
  • Drove through it be haven't camped there, be sure to drive up the road to the falls... but make sure you disconnect the trailer first.
  • Last time a few years ago, we camped in a TC at Kicking Horse but I don't know how well the sites will accomodate your larger rig. There could be snow and definately cool(read frosty) nights. A few years before that, the CG was closed until summer due to avalanche damage to some park structures.

We have stayed in the Monarch overflow camping area just down the road last year a few times. Cheaper, no services except dump station and nice pit toilets and cook shack.
Very noisey with the trucks coming down the hill with their Jake Brakes and the mainline trains with squeeling brakes(no horns).

Gorgeous setting when the sun comes out.

  • We didn't find Kicking Horse very noisy -- the train horns were far away, and the road noise was not too bad. Great location -- lots of great hikes nearby. It's about a half hour from there to Lake Louise. We did not like the Lake Louise campground -- really loud trains all night long.
  • We were there last year in July and the sites in the open meadow area are plenty long enough for longer units, most are pull through but only the ones on the outer circle of this area have fire pits.
This park is a first come first served as there is no reservations allowed. The national parks have free permits this year so the park might be quite busy and hard to get a site at unless you are there at the right time.
It was a little bit rustic and like some of the rest of the national parks that are a little bit run down and in need of some repair.
But it is a nice park otherwise.
