Labrador Newfoundland

I've done that drive several times, I've also piloted small planes there and back.

As a friend who accompanied me on one flight put when asked about the scenery; "There was mile after mile of nothing but mile after mile.".

If you like trees and wilderness, it's a good trip. But bear in mind, it was built as a construction access road for the hydro projects, not as a scenic route, so you often times are very close to, but out of sight of, some really great spots.

Go up to Blancsablon and get back with the other ferry and make a different way trough the Maritimes

We did the trans Labrador in 2012 and would highly recommend it. The tour of the Churchill Falls generating station is worth the trip itself. You also have Happy Valley/Goose Bay with the air force museum, Lab City Iron ore mine, And in Quebec on Hwy 385 the Manic 5 dam, the largest in the world of its design. Make the circle, you won't regret it.

I have a former co-worker heading home to Mud Lake, near Happy Valley, tomorrow. She promises to send me pictures.

The route from Baie Comeau is 389.

In my photo album (see signature) you will see pics from Manic II as well as Manic V, as well as Churchill Falls generating station. I too found the tours quite worth while.

Thinking of driving the circle next year . Can anyone comment on how often you encounter gas stations ? That a big concern when you only get 500 km to a tank . Baie Comeau to Labrador city is more than that and so is Labrador city to Happy Valley . There doesn't seems to be very many villages along the way if any !!

There are more municipalities than you think. Although the road does go inland, there are settlements, villages/towns along the coast.

You can buy gas at Manic 5 between Baie Comeau and Lab City and their is gas at Churchill Falls between Lab City and Happy Valley. The longest distance was 250 miles from Port Hope Simpson to Happy Valley. We have made the circle twice. Enjoy.

We took this route last summer on our way back from Newfoundland. Do a search for Trans Labrador highway and see our report posted 12-13-13. It was a great trip and would do it again.
