Least expensive EZ-Pass

When I was working near Chicago some years ago, I got an EZ-Pass. When that job ended, I didn't use it for a while and got billed for the month I didn't use it. That didn't go over so well.....

Are there any EZ-Pass carriers that do not bill you if you don't use them??

If your state offers EZPass you are best to get it there because it usually provides a discount for in-state use. If not, I don't know what is the best answer. New York charges a $1 monthly Port Authority fee.
  • As mentioned, NY has no monthly fee for E-ZPass as long as you maintain an auto-refill balance. There is a small fee if you prefer mailed statements instead email though. You do not need to be a NY state resident to get a NY issued E-ZPass...
  • I-pass from Illinois I think was $10 and put some money on it, no service charge. Works anywhere ez-pass does.
  • Strange. I've got a transponder issued by the Central Florida Expressway authority that is EZ Pass compatible in 18 states. Haven't been on a road that I need it for in quite awhile. Account balance remains what it's been since last use, although once the 'Lexus Lanes' on I-4 through Orlando open I suspect that will change.
  • I have Indiana's. Sometimes I go 5 months without using it and no charges.
  • I got my pass from Delaware , no monthly charges as I recall.
