Legalities regarding firearms for bear safety in wilderness?

I seem to be having trouble finding information on the need, and possibility of exporting one's own legal Canadian firearm (shotgun) into Yukon/Alaska for protection? We will be there for nearly two...

I'd rather have a high caliber rifle than a shotgun in these situations. Another question to ask is are weapons allowed in national or state parks? And what are the laws and regulations when a weapon in your possession when passing through them?



A 12 gauge shotgun loaded with slugs will be effective.... birdshot, not so much. :B
