- JaxDadExplorer IIISorry Pat, but it's physics, not construction.
25,000 pounds of m/h going X miles per hour subjected to a deceleration rate of Y feet per second equals............. A sad story.
Make all the arguments you want. Google "school bus crash" (they're built high off the road for a reason), the facts don't change. You don't want to be in, or near, one in a collision. - wny_pat1Explorer

Ever seen what a Motorhome looks like after an accident? They don't get crash-tested either.
All depends on the construction of the motorhome!!! Obviously that one was truck type ladder frame and not monocoque construction. Seeing that pic reminds me why I choose to drive a motorhome built using a monocoque chassis design. - 2012ColemanExplorer II

What I said...
Common sense should be the guiding force here - regardless of legality.
Worth repeating since this months old thread has been ressurrected. - calamusExplorerOf course We rode our bikes without helmets and knee pads also! Im sure they didnt have any car seats either. Ha I dont ever remember any kid getting hurt growing up guess we were lucky! If its a short trip slow speeds under 40mph its one thing on the interstate or major highway no way.

.Its amazing what people freak out about now a days I remember riding in the back of a pickup with 3 other kids to a lake 3 hours away while our uncle and so of his buddies rode up front it was fine till it rained!
reminds me of years back I was following in Rockville a GM station wagon with the clam shell rear hatch/window open and there was a young child lying in the back with the seats down so there was a large slick floor. she took a turn, child slipped out onto the street. nobody appeared to be hurt except perhaps the mother's underwear, but I bet she didn't ever allow that to happen again.
bumpy - mileshuffExplorerTT's generally offer little more protection than a cardboard box in a crash. They disintegrate easily. No thanks, legal or not.
- calamusExplorerWe have 2 large labs and 2 kids when we travel somewhere with the dogs we put the kennels in our bedroom above the slide and they ride in there. It is legal in Nebr for passengers to ride in 5th wheel trailers BTW. I would not have a problem riding in there but would not let the kids. The dogs seem to do fine We have taken several trips with no problems. Now put them in the boat and its a whole different story! Ali the black lab hates the boat loves the water?? go figure Lillie our yellow lab just stretches out on the floor and goes for a ride. Its amazing what people freak out about now a days I remember riding in the back of a pickup with 3 other kids to a lake 3 hours away while our uncle and some of his buddies rode up front it was fine till it rained!

We have left a candle in a glass jar, silverware and other items on the dinette. Most of the time they are still there when we get to where we are going.
- frankdampExplorerMost TTs and fivers have rather rudimentary suspension systems and often no dampers. They're not expected to carry passengers. Riding in a truck camper is manageable, but it's dangerous in an accident, since the camper body isn't tested for crash-worthiness with occupants.
