Legalities regarding firearms for bear safety in wilderness?

I seem to be having trouble finding information on the need, and possibility of exporting one's own legal Canadian firearm (shotgun) into Yukon/Alaska for protection? We will be there for nearly two...

Correction to my earlier response:

I was not aware of the changes made after 9/11 to our laws regarding non-residents bringing firearms into the US. Here are the current facts:
