Lewis and Lewis as insurers. Yes or No?

Yes they are agents for a Mexican insurance company as are all the others. There are no American run insurance companies operating in Mexico, they are Mexican, Spanish or Argentinian. When you buy from Vagabundos you are saving commission.

So Tequila what are you trying to say? Vagabundos does not insure they sell Mexican insurance from Mexican insurance companies just like Lewis and Lewis.
I said that liability is much different in claims than trying to claim comp. My comp is with Progressive, liability with Vagabundos. I am sure you can find cases with every insurance companies that you would not agree with. It works for me so far.

Belgique: I had Progressive on the Bluebird. If the vehicle is drivable you must take it to the USA for repairs. They do not pay for repairs in Mexico. If it is not drivable they will tow it to the USA.

As simply as I can explain.
Drivers license liability is a policy offered by Vagabundos Del Mar Mexican travel Club. The carrier for this policy is GNP Seguro. I have never had a claim but the people at Vag say they are reliable and have paid their claims. Liability claims get resolved faster because of less paper trail than comp.
My last policy for 2014 was $90.00 for only $50,000. worth. Now the $500,000. policy is $110.00 yearly. If you add Travel Aid (Roadside Assistance and Medical Transportation) it is $129.56. For details call Vag.
Vag has a 800# that is called for claims with Spanish and Bi-lingual reps answering.
This coverage is only good for the one person that purchases the policy under his/her drivers license #. You are covered for any vehicle you are driving EXCEPT MEXICAN PLATED/REGISTERED VEHICLES. You can be driving your friend from Canada's car and are covered for liability.
I used to use L&L a few years ago until I discoverd the options I get with the Vagabundos Club. I have referred many friends including Canadian friends and they have purchased through them. They also sell boat insurance.
One small catch :) you must join the club at $35.00 yearly.
If anyone uses Vagabundos please say I refered you I get Vag Bucks.

If you are towing another consider an anti hijack device, after your experience and that of Ron & Vicky, I put one in my truck, about $350 installed. A guy in Abbotsford installs them. They will get about 3 minutes down the road, then it will die on them.

We had a claim for an unrecovered stolen Jeep, Qualitas insurance from Lewis and Lewis. After some communication from Jim Lewis to the adjuster in Mexico the claim was paid, within two hundred dollars of our declared value. Almost made me wish I had valued the Jeep higher! They did consider at least some of the costs of the added tow and braking system.

Total of 13 years with Lewis and Lewis and we will insure with them again in October.

Has anyone had a claim using Progressive in Mexico? Curious how that would work cross border with adjusters etc.

Sorry if I confused anything for anything - thought I was clear. Progressive only covers comp in Mexico - Mexican liability is still required. No US company can cover liability in Mexico.

Since you say you have the driver's license insurance can you please explain how it works and what it does. We have heard this is not adequate liability insurance in Mexico. Where do you get it and can they explain and clarify. Seems a great savings. But we have been told by many not to get it. Thanks for any help.

Brian I also have had Progressive for the RV for 10 years. You must also carry Mexican Liability for the RV to have Progressive's comp kick in. I use a yearly Mexican drivers license liability that I get from Vagabundos., It cost me about a $100.00 It covers me with any vehicle I drive in Mexico. So I only spend the $100. I don't feel my tow is worth insuring. I drive the toad and the RV so liability is covered.
