Loading TelCel Stick From Canada

We have used a TelCel Internet stick for several years while in Mexico. Have found it to work quite well most of the time. It can be a hassle to get data loaded on it sometimes while in Mexico. Does anyone know if you can load data on it in Canada before we leave? Would sure make it easy for the first few weeks while in Mexico.

  • you are likely coming this way so if you want you you can send me the number and I will activate it for you. Good to hear you are coming to Mexico again.
  • We have always paid with a Canadian credit card while in Mexico both at the TelCel store and online. It is always a problem getting the thing activated for the first time after you have been out of the country for awhile. We still prefer being able to pop the stick in our laptop instead of using our phone.
  • I doubt you can do that. How would you pay for the data? Telmex/Telcel usually does not take foreign credit cards.

On Edit: Call this number. 1-800-220-9518 I think it is Telcel USA. They advertise that you CAN buy airtime and data for a Mexican Cell phone. Maybe they can do the same for your internet stick. Actually those sticks are old technology. Most Mexicans just carry a Telcel phone (or ATT or Movistar). The pay as you go plans are cheap. I threw my stick in the Basura! With a Telcel phone you can get unlimited calls to or from the USA, Mexico and Canada. Data is fairly inexpensive.
