is not done with us yet. It is better to err on the side of caution. When you look at the number of people who have died from this it is hard to see each one on its own. I bet their families would have liked us to have done more. I hope there is a light at the end of this dark tunnel......Mike - JaxDadExplorer III

Don, not that Canada has been successful but that IMO Canada has been more serious about trying to safeguard its citizens.
I was speaking with a relative in upstate NY about this the other day.
Take the number of cases and divide it by the population of each country, that gives you the number of cases as a percentage of the population.
As of Sunday evening June 28th;
USA - 0.00789 %
Canada - 0.00274 %
So then Canada has 34.728 % the number of cases per capita that the US has.
That sounds pretty successful to me and the numbers are not getting any better as the days pass. - Little_KopitExplorerWell, those who have posted are expecting too much too soon.
Again this is a virus, not influenza. That there will be a 2nd phase of lots of "victims" is what I hear up here.
Yes, on Friday the Atlantic Canadian Bubble will open. & will have lots of checks in place.
That it might be of short duration, looking back at the Spanish Flu of the past century, I rather expect.
Europe and NZ are more serious than USA.

Val, who could be happy the border is closed? Certainly not me! But if it helps contain the virus, I support it. - bob_nestorExplorer III

Keep hearing about a lot of positives on vaccines and such, but nothing solid. Seems many companies and governments are working on it. We had 2 trips auto-cancel on us, and now our summer vacation is to a local state park to camp vs. mountains or ocean view campsites.
I just hope a serious vaccine is found and implemented soon....
The problem with a vaccine is that it targets a single variant of a virus. There are a dozen or so flu viruses each with it's own vaccine. They try to guess each year which three strains might be present and put those three vaccines into the flu shot. Sometimes they guess wrong and it seems they can't put more than three into a single shot.
The COVID-19 virus has been reported to have already mutated into as many as 30 different variants and if so there's not much hope of stamping it out with a vaccine. We probably should have been focusing much more attention on treatments than vaccines.
It may be painful to hear but I suspect our best chances of dealing with this longer term come down to 1) herd immunity, 2) virus disappears just like SARS did, or 3) good, inexpensive and effective treatments for those infected. gbopp wrote:
Apparently the summer sun/heat isn't killing off the Virus. I think the US will be closing again.
I've always thought the "summer heat" theory was rather funny. Especially as the virus survived just fine in the tropics on cruise ships. If cases continue to rise we will all be camping in our back yards instead of at campgrounds in other countries.- mleekampExplorerKeep hearing about a lot of positives on vaccines and such, but nothing solid. The Canadians have taken this virus far more seriously than we have. It’s their right and duty to protect their citizens.
Canadian govt maybe...we have several Canadian friends and they are ticked off that they can't cross the border.
Nailed it.
I'd also like the border to open asap. Closed it's costing me money.
The border opening "review" is supposed to be July 21.
If it goes past the 31st, and it appears it may, then good call Gary, although the supporting docs you posted previously didn't necessarily support the extension. I'll buy you a beer next Fall/Winter when all the Snowbirds flock west to BC. - Jebby14Explorergood. the numbers are fairly clear.
