Mackinac Bridge crossing

It happens very rarely. The speed limits are lowered, and in rare cases a pilot vehicle is used. The normal speed limit for cars is 45, and trucks 25 which I think also applies for towing. Watch you speed, sit back and enjoy the view...

Follow the signs for reduced speed. When we went across we were required by signing to use the inside lane.
I would suggest turning on four ways!

I agree. We have crossed it towing our TT and were not accustomed to that size bridge before. Like others have stated, follow the signs and any traffic alerts, if any, and enjoy the view. :)

I dont do heights at all, and was very nervous about driving over the bridge with winds with a new 38' fifth, and the wife wouldn't drive in the narrow lanes so we got a driver. I hunkered down in the back seat.

On the way back i braved it and just watched the bumper of the truck ahead of me.

We arrived when it was raining and windy, we were stopped and a pilot vehicle led a convoy of RV's and trucks across, no cars, we were told to drive in center of roadway, 25 mph and stay 500 feet apart. I have been told that if winds are to high they will close bridge to high profile vehicles. We were in UP for two weeks when we returned it was a beautiful clear day and we crossed with everyone else.

Possible strong storms Wednesday. Then clear and highs in the low 70's. Wednesday may be the only problem day.

We've been across the Mackinac bridge a few times, once on a motorcycle, and never encountered winds. What have encountered each and every time is lane closures, tons of maintenance vehicles, and slow speed limits.

Actually the slower speed limits are a blessing in disguise. Any one feeling apprehensive about driving over the bridge can breathe easier and most likely will not be tailgated by an impatient driver. :)

IN the past I remember a policy that the Bridge had. In high wind conditions, because a RV trailer is a lot lighter then a truck, they had you drive along side a Semi to break the wind for you. Not sure if this is still in place. I just remember reading about this somewhere.
I never did use this service as wind was not a problem the 5 or 6 times we have used the bridge.

Trucks are 20 and cars are 45, If I remember correctly I had to go 20 in the motor home
