Rt. 2 is the major east/west route across the Tristate region. Even though it's only a 2 lane road it's very well maintained. It's one of the best road to see rural America, the views, the small towns, the open farm lands and the attractions along the way makes it an enjoyable trip... Don't be in a hurry, it worth the trip.
Ditto. I have driven this route many times, and in fact live just off Rt 2 in the summer. Almost all of the reconstruction of the road is done so it is a very smooth ride. We drove the road West from Bangor to St Johnsbury at the height of the fall foliage last year and it was a one of the most spectacular rides we have ever taken, and I've been traveling that road since the mid 1960s! I have never even thought of substituting the Interstates.
