Maine to Cape May NJ

Hi Friends
We are 18,000 pounds and 58' long. Trying to get from Portland ME to Cape May NJ and for the love of God....without going over the GW bridge in NY.

Google Maps wants us to go 95
We have a Garmin Diezl but it always wants to send us the shortest route. The good thing about the Garmin is that it knows how much we weigh and how long we are so we don't get jammed up.

Any help would be appreciated.
  • I90 west to I84 west to new York thru way south. After you cross the Newburgh bridge your Garmin will show you the way
  • Get on the Mass Pike, exit on 84 towards Hartford. Take 91 then 691 down to Danbury. Then take 684 down to the Tapp. Then take the GW Parkway to the NJTP. Then take the exit for Cape May.

First part of the above is OK. "GW Parkway" should read Garden State Parkway. RVs are allowed on the Garden State Parkway. Just stay away from the far right lane between about exits 150 to 135 as there are some arched bridges that are low for tall rigs in that section. They are well signed an not an issue away from the road shoulder. The Garden State Parkway goes all the way to exit zero a few miles north of Cape May. The NJ Turnpike would take you out of the way to the west.

If you will be going further south, we like to use the Cape May/Lewes ferry to Delaware.
  • 2X on the GSP. In addition in Cape May, Cape May Mobile Estates has long sweeping pull thru sites with plenty of room for a trailer or toad.
  • I run this route all the time to visit relatives.

    I-95 south to I-495

I-495 South to Massachusetts Exit 25 for I-290 towards Worcester

Take I-290 thru Worcester to I-90 (Mass Pike)

Go one Exit on Mass Pike to I-84 South

Follow I-84 thru MA, CT and into NY

In NY take I-684 South To I-287 East

I-297 Crosses the Hudson River using the Tappan Zee Bridge.

About 7 miles after crossing the TZ bridge turn south onto the New Jersey Garden State Parkway connector road. You are still in NY but the connector takes you into NJ.

Get off the GSP at the last exit. exit 0.
