Maine to Nova Scotia

Is there a ferry going to and from Maine to Nova Scotia capabile of carrying a 35" 5er and TV? How much did it cost? If there is no ferry or to expensive what route did you take to get to Halifax NS? Thanks for any information or additional information concerning travelling in Canada and NS. Thanks again!
  • No more ferry from Maine, you have to go to St. John, New Brunswick to get a ferry to Nova Scotia.
  • There used to be a ferry on that route. It was subsidized by the province of Nova Scotia. That was taken away, thus the ferry route went. People in South West Nova are working to find a way for a different ferry.

  • This was a fun ferry ride, with our trailer in tow, from Campobello overe to Deer Island, then you drive accross the island to the Deer Island ferry to L'Etete NB. This also gets you around border crossing at Calais (worse coming south). You do cross going onto Campobello but it was pretty mild. There is a small campground on Deer Island I've beeen thinking about trying out, looks pretty cool from the ferry.
  • There is a ferry between St. John, New Brunswick and Digby, Nova Scotia. When we used it back in 2008 the fare for our 24 ft MH plus 2 persons was about $250. Current schedule and fares here.

X2. Enjoyed that route last year crossing from Lubec, Maine. Really quick and friendly border crossing. You can visit the West Quoddy lighthouse in Maine and the East Quoddy light on Campobello. The little ferries were fun.

We drove up to that Deer Island campground, but the roads were pretty bad and sites looked uneven. It's right by the "Old Sow" whirlpool.
  • Almost to signing per news this morning. An agreement with one or two companies and the Nova Scotia government re. ferry from New England to NS is in the news just now, via CBC.

  • Even if they make a ferry deal now it will be 2014 before service starts.
  • NCWriter and Padlin,

Sorry to hijack an old thread, but I have questions about the ferry from Campobello to Deer Island and then to New Brunswick main land.

I have researched the ferry websites and watched multiple YouTube videos of the ferries.

First, is there any risk to boarding or unboarding the ferry with a 30 foot motorhome based on the tide? Low tide looks a bit challenging.

If it is breezy, how much salt spray or heavy water would I expect getting on the vehicles?

I expect to have perfect weather, of course, but just in case, I would attempt to take the ferries early in the day before wind would develop. Tide could work against me however.
