Maine to Williamsburg Va.
Headed to Williamsburg Va, want to avoid NY City, my encyclopedia of routes has passed away(my dad) and I don't remember the best route around NYC. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

- Never been there but Google Maps suggests I-275 to go around NYC.
- I287 around the city is how I go, then to I78 to I81 to I64. This way, you avoid the major cities and the expensive tolls on I95.
Edited: I was thinking Kings Dominion instead of BGW. - Ditto what ChooChooMan stated but I would pickup i81 higher up in NY. Scenic cut through the top three states. In a hurry pickup I90 in Mass and go into NY. Anything around NYC unless your coming through 10pm to 4-5 am is horrible. Roads conditions and traffic jams.
- I-95 to I-495 to I-290 to the Mass Pike (I-90) to I-84.
From here you have several choices
1. I-84 to I-81 in Scranton. Did this last year and 81 between Scranton and Harrisburg was construction and rough.
2. I-84 to US209 to I-80 to Harrisburg to pick up I-81
3. I-84 to I-684 to I-287 across the Tappan Zee and down the Garden State Parkway or stay on I-287 to I-78 to Harrisburg to pick up I-81
After that you can take I-81 to I-64 or get off 81 at Winchester VA and take US50/US17 to I-95 in Fredricksburg. Personally I like 50/17. It's scenic.
Also, get an EZpass. Well worth it. - Thanks the all the s suggestions, I have done the Tappeen Zee and 81 to 84 towing a camper may do tappeen zee and garden state parkway, the boss may want 81 and 84 will talk about it.
